"… Mary's lovely home-cooked meals gave us a real feeling of luxury both
because of the quality of beautiful food and the fact that we didn't
have to make dinner while looking after two small children!"

Ordering Food

You can order food before you arrive if you wish. Waitrose will deliver here. They have a minimum order requirement of £60.00. Riverford will deliver on a Friday. There is a mimimum order of £12.50. Email Tony and Joyce, our local, friendly Riverford delivery at tonyandjoyce@riverfordhomedelivery.co.uk

When you are here you can have newspapers delivered. Ring Phill Veal on 07980296003 or ask me to arrange it for you.

We can provide you with our eggs (when the hens are laying!), our own apple juice, and we sometimes have lamb in our freezer.

Go to Local Food Advisor – Website listing award winning local food producers across the UK & Ireland for more options, and to source food in your home town.

For the very best organic and very free-range turkeys go to http://www.wonnacottfarm.co.uk . They only have 30 breeding females, so order in good time.

Home-cooked Meals

When on holiday it is lovely to eat out; but it is also very pleasant when staying somewhere comfortable in beautiful surroundings to stay 'at home' and have the food come to you.

I have in the past provided meals for guests staying in our barn. Our daugter Mary (a better cook than I am!) has recently returned from living in Italy and lives nearby. She demonstrates at shows for Riverford. She is now offering to cook for our visitors. We are not a restaurant, though, and she finds (after trying!) that she can only cope with one choice of food per night.

She can usually provide a meal at short notice, but does need at least 24 hours in order to source the ingredients.

Meals come with lots of fresh vegetables and potatoes (mashed, boiled, baked or gratin) or rice. Where possible she uses our own organic produce; otherwise it is sourced locally from non-intensive, 'environmentally friendly' systems.

Teatime I am still the cook for this!

A plate of my hot-from- the-oven scones, with
clotted cream and home-made strawberry jam, £10 for 18 scones.
Or (maximum of six) come to the farmhouse kitchen and sit round the table eating drop scones or pancakes as fast as I can cook them on the top of the Aga, £4 a head.

Supper
From £14 a head, for a minimum of six people, for main course and pudding. She can cook for less than six; but may have to charge more per head.
Choose from the following: -

Sausage and Root Vegetable Stew
Chicken and Mushroom Casserole with Cider
Pork, Cider and Sweet Winter Vegetable Casserole
Slow-Roasted Beef Brisket with Pototoes and Onions
Lentil and Chorizo Stew
Lamb Casserole with Mint
Sauasages with Peperonata
Grilled Mackerel with Spring Onions and Calcot Sauce
Lamb Kebabs with Caponata and Rice
Vegetable Tagine with Coscous
Courgette and Ricotta Lasagne

Puddings:
Eton Mess
Bread and Butter Pudding
Rice Pudding
Fruit Crumble
Hot Chocolate Fudge Pudding
Fruit Salad

She loves cooking (and teaching) Italian cuisine. Ask her! email MaryTanner at
hotmail.co.uk .

There will be a pizza delivery service soon (pizza's freshly cooked on the floor of the Aga )

She's listed some of her own favourites but she'd be delighted to try to cook anything you wish. Ask her, and she'll let you know if she can! She would enjoy discussing menus and recipes with you.
